Apple’s WWDC 2024 just unveiled iOS 18, macOS 15, and new AI features coming to iPhones, Macs, and iPads. Yet, it seems the only thing truly “new” here is the version number suffix. Apple, the self-proclaimed paragon of innovation, is more accurately a marketing juggernaut that can spin the smallest dot into a groundbreaking innovation. Let’s dive into some of these “revolutionary” copy-pastes that are set to grace the iPhones.

iOS 18 – The New Way to Look at iPhones and hear Android users say “What’s new in this!”

Personalize Your Home Screen – iOS 2024 / Android 12 (2021)

Brace yourselves, iPhone users! You can now rearrange your app icons anywhere on the home screen and change app icon colors to your heart’s content. Sound familiar? That’s because Android users have been doing this since 2021. And let’s not forget the customizable lock screen action buttons, another “innovative” feature Android has had for years.

Control Center Customization – iOS 2024 / Android 12 (2021)

The customizable Control Center is finally here! Years after Android’s Notification Action Tiles, which have been customizable since, well, forever, iOS users can now revel in this “novel” feature. It’s amazing how Apple can introduce something so old as if it’s brand new.

Locked and Hidden Apps – iOS 2024 / Android 15 (2024) / MIUI (2021)

In a move that screams originality, iOS 18 now includes locked folders and hidden apps for enhanced privacy. Sure, MIUI had this back in 2021, but who’s counting? Better late than never, right?

Calculator – iPad OS 2024 / Android Centuries Ago

Yes, you read that right. In 2024, iPadOS is boasting a calculator app as a new feature. Android users have been calculating away for years, but hey, it’s a first for iPadOS 18! On an iPad, it can even read handwritten numbers and calculate for you in notes yeah thats Impressive but just get a Calculator app on the iPad now.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) & Siri – Because You Need to Name Everything “Apple Intelligence”

AI is all the rage, reshaping our future and all that jazz. So, naturally, Apple is jumping on the bandwagon with “Apple Intelligence.”

  • Erase Distractions from Image Backgrounds: Meet Apple’s version of Magic Eraser, something Google introduced back in 2022. The iOS keynote even felt like a déjà vu of Google I/O from that time.

  • Summarize Text/Messages/Emails: Sure, Chat GPT and Gemini have been doing this across all devices, but now you can do it in iOS too. Hooray!

  • Search Photos by Name and Create a Memory Video: Google Photos has been doing this since 2021, but let’s all pretend it’s new and revolutionary because Apple says so.

The list of these so-called innovations goes on and on. One can’t help but wonder why it took so long for Apple to jump on the copy-paste bandwagon. But at least they’re finally here, right?

iOS 18: Just a Copy-Paste of Features on your iPhone – Apple, Why So Late in Copying?

In the end, iOS 18 is less about innovation and more about playing catch-up. Apple continues to prove that it’s not about who does it first but who does it with the most hype. So, here’s to the new era of recycled features, rebranded and remarketed for your iOS enjoyment. Cheers to the “new” innovations!
